Pioneering Carbon Neutrality in Sønderborg by 2029
ProjectZero is a public-private partnership between Sønderborg Municipality and the Bitten & Mads Clausens Foundation dedicated to make Sønderborg’s energy system carbon-neutral by 2029.
Having come a long way through greening the district heating supply, increasing energy efficiency and other means the project is planning the last sprint to become fully carbon neutral in 2029 while show-casing sector-coupling solutions. Therefore the team needed a roadmap with pathways for achieving carbon neutrality and the opportunities and challenges associated with the different paths.
Devcco’s Strategic Role in Crafting Sønderborg’s Path to Carbon Neutrality
To realize the ambitions of Project Zero, Devcco was engaged to develop a roadmap of technical scenarios and to outline the organisational, commercial and financial models related with selected paths.
Devcco executed a business case and development roadmap for implementing a combined PtX and carbon capture hub to deliver the required co2 emission reductions and sector coupling benefits while being realistic from a business case perspective. The technical project included carbon capture from waste incineration which was integrated with hydrogen production from electrolyses to deliver e-fuels for transport.
Successful Outcomes of ProjectZero: A Roadmap to Sustainable Energy
The Project delivered a practical roadmap for reaching Project Zero’s targets including a business model, locational analysis, energy balance calculations and an organisational execution model.
