Aarhus Enhances Urban Sustainability with New District Cooling Initiative
In 2020, the Aarhus waste management and district energy utility Kredsløb (formerly AffaldVarme Aarhus) initiated the development of district cooling to enhance the city’s environmental footprint and expand its service offerings. The project aims to create synergies with the existing district heating utility by using heat pumps for cogeneration of heating and cooling, providing comprehensive thermal services to commercial customers like hotels, office buildings, and malls.
Devcco Paves the Way for District Cooling in Aarhus with Strategic Business Case Roadmap
Devcco undertook a business case roadmap (BCR) project to assess the feasibility of introducing district cooling in Aarhus. The study encompassed market assessments, potential business models, financing possibilities, and technical solutions tailored to meet customer demands. The BCR identified viable business cases for three distinct market areas in Aarhus. Since 2020, Devcco has also been involved in the feasibility phase, furthering the development of district cooling in the city.
Devcco Secures Contract for Feasibility Study, Leading to New Utility for District Cooling in Aarhus
In 2021, Devcco was awarded the contract to execute a Feasibility Study for establishing the district cooling service. The project began in January 2021 and was completed by December 2021, with Ramboll acting as the technical subconsultant. This phase culminated in the establishment of a new utility within Kredsløb for district cooling and led to the investment decision and construction of the first district cooling plant and network.
